Dear Church Members,
The Pastor Search Committee has the pleasure to introduce to you Dr. David G. Norman Jr. as our recommendation to the Body of Believers for Senior Pastor at University Baptist Church. Below is a short written biography of Dr. Norman.
The committee has already prayed and pored over all of the details of Dr. Norman’s background, and we unanimously bring him to you for your consideration. Now is the time for the church to hear him preach and ask important questions of him concerning his background and his vision for UBC, so that an informed decision can be made.
He will preach this Sunday, June 21st, during our morning Worship Service at 10:45 a.m. He and his family will be available Sunday evening, at 6:00 p.m. in the Worship Center for what is called a “Meet and Greet,” but it is really more like a town hall meeting. Both of these events will be live-streamed.
Then, on Wednesday, June 24th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Center, we will have a special called business meeting where we will vote on him to become our next pastor. According to our by-laws, only members can participate in this vote and must be present for the vote. Our by-laws are very specific as to what constitutes a member of UBC. A member is a person who has come before the church for membership in one of four ways: by making a public profession of faith and is baptized, by a letter of membership from another Baptist church, by their statement of faith and biblical baptism, or has been restored to the membership. We ask our members to arrive a little early for this meeting, because we will need to check you into the meeting and provide you with a ballot. The ballots will only be cast when the question is called by the moderator of the meeting.
We know some of our members may have concerns about attending this business meeting in person due to the current conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have taken a great abundance of consideration in our social distancing protocols and health safety practices. We are greatly blessed with a large worship center where we have the space to spread out and make sure we are maintaining proper social distancing. We will have designated areas for “at-risk persons”. Our facilities will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before all of these events. Even with adhering to the state recommended requirements, we can hold more than is expected to attend these meetings. By sitting throughout the auditorium, lobby, and, if needed, the youth center, everyone can be present to hear and participate in the decision for our next senior pastor.
We are living in a unique time in our nation’s history as well as in the life of University Baptist Church. It is a great privilege to be involved in the eternal concerns of the church even in the midst of the severe conditions of the pandemic. God is working. His people continue to be praying. For His glory we eagerly anticipate His blessing on His church as we move forward. If you have further questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at fcorte@ubcsa.org or by cell at (210) 325-6898.
In His Service,
