Randy Bales, Pastor

rbales@ubcsa.org

Randy Bales • Pastor

Randy Bales, Pastor of UBC, has a heart for people to know God and find forgiveness from sin. Beginning at UBC in 1986, Randy has made it his mission of 20 years to follow the words of the apostle Paul in Philippians 3:10: “That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” One of the eternal pursuits uniquely available to mankind on this earth, Randy believes that anyone and everyone can come to know who God is and find His grace and love.

While at UBC, Randy has dedicated his life in the manner of Ephesians 4: “He gave some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.” Through his strong, expository teaching style, Randy communicates the simple truths found in the Bible for successful and joyful living every week at UBC.

Prior to UBC, Randy served as Minister of Music and Education at Edgemont Park Baptist Church in Mesquite, TX. Randy has a MARE degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Peggy, have three children, Johnathan, Rachel, and Michael.

Michael Peeler, Associate Pastor of Music & Worship

mpeeler@ubcsa.org

Michael Peeler • Associate Pastor of Music & Worship

As the Associate Pastor of Music & Worship, Michael Peeler deeply desires for people to worship and glorify God with their gifts. Whether singing, playing an instrument, adjusting sound levels, or participating in other activities, individuals engage in a lifestyle of worship when they discover and use their talents and abilities for His glory. Hailing from a small town in Mississippi, Michael was impacted in high school by God's call to use his musical talents in full-time ministry. From college drum major to his present role at UBC, Michael continues to see God's faithful working in his life.

Michael earned a Bachelor of Music Education in Church Music at Mississippi State University in 1993 and a Master of Music from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1996. Although he's served churches in Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia, Michael currently loves living in Texas with his wife, Marti, and two children, Stewart and Matthew.  When they are not enjoying family time at Sea World, you'll find Michael at the movies, playing Wii with his boys, or chatting online.

Orrel Picklesimer, Associate Pastor of Administration

opicklesimer@ubcsa.org

Orrel Picklesimer • Associate Pastor of Administration

No one changes hats more than Orrel Picklesimer. Orrel has been a steadfast fixture of UBC life since 1989, most recently taking up the position of Associate Pastor of Administration in 2004. With eyes fixed on an “eternity” perspective, Orrel and his wife of 50+ years, Jean, have devoted their energies to a variety of UBC ministries, including discipleship, evangelism, and teaching. Orrel’s philosophy of ministry is to serve God with all his being by following Jesus’ command in Luke 9:2-3: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Throughout his life, Orrel has witnessed God’s provision and protection - even surviving three wars! (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam) But in the end, Orrel only wants to be known as a man after God’s own heart.

Before working for UBC, Orrel was a Tax and Accounting Manager for Carmen Garcia. He is also a certified public accountant. Orrel graduated with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso (BBA) and has a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Orrel and Jean are blessed with a son, John Mark, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Jim Williams, Minister to Students

jwilliams@ubcsa.org

Jim Williams • Minister to Students

A sharp wit and an incredible knowledge of seemingly everything makes Jim a fun person to be around. His experienced ministry of over 19 years and His daily reliance on God’s provisions, provide a solid foundation for our youth ministry at UBC. Jim and his wife, Kathy, joined the team over a year ago, and yet they’ve already made a mark on us. From fishing to camping to ballgames and concerts, Jim is an avid outdoorsman. His individual and deep desire to disciple others parallels that of UBC and shines through in everything he does.

If you can’t find him in the office, check for Jim at youth ballgames, concerts, the Bass Pro Shop, or online shopping for frugal deals.

Michael Cline, Jr., Music Assistant

mcline@ubcsa.org

Michael Cline, Jr. • Music Assistant

After growing up at UBC, Michael took on a bigger leadership role in 2007, bringing direction and leadership to the 180 Youth Praise Band.  His continued faithfulness, desire to grow musically and spiritually, and true heart for worship, serve as a great examples to those around him.

Michael’s varied tastes in music assist him in building relationships with others.  Watch out if you claim to be a fan of a music group; Michael will quiz you on how many songs you know. When he’s not listening to music, Lil’ J and his Taylor guitar are cranking out new songs, or watching movies with family or friends.

Michael leads in our Sunday services and plays guitar with the adult praise band while juggling college and work schedules.

Tim Smith, Operation Multiplication Director

tsmith@ubcsa.org

Tim Smith • Operation Multiplication Director

Committed to making disciples of Christ, Tim’s greatest ambition is to be involved in all aspects of the Great Commission. In reading the Bible and discovering ultimate Truth, Tim was set free from sin. After seeing God transform his own life, Tim wants to help others change from doubt to belief, death to life, and from a stone cold heart to one of flesh. Tim helps pair people up for one-on-one discipleship at UBC.

A true history buff, Tim loves San Antonio’s rich heritage and beautiful terrain. In his spare time, Tim reads…history, of course. Taking a page from history, Tim wishes he could sit down with James (the author of the book of James in the Bible) for a long conversation about biblical teachings. As the leader of the Jerusalem church and possibly the half-brother of Jesus, Tim would ask James why he set those honors aside to identify himself as a servant of God and Jesus Christ.

Tim and his wife, Mary, have three children.

Gloria Baldree, Administrative Support

gbaldree@ubcsa.org

Gloria Baldree • Administrative Support

A San Antonian at heart, Gloria Baldree began working at UBC in 1988. Nearly 20 years of dedication as the Administration Secretary at UBC have produced countless friendships and opportunities for ministry. Gloria believes it is the godly, caring people at UBC that make the church unique, and she will always remember how the members at UBC cared for her when her mother passed. Gloria shares that same joyful comfort with others in the office, the halls of UBC, and on the mountains in Peru. Dedicating her life to children, Gloria invests her time in teaching preschoolers about God’s love. She hopes to see her own children serving God and for her grandchildren to know the Lord.

Gloria has two children, Keith, and Diana, and four grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexander, Deja, and Preston. Whenever she’s not with her grandkids, Gloria spends her free time scrapbooking, crocheting, and doing crafts.

Sheila Jackman, Reception Support

sjackman@ubcsa.org

Sheila Jackman • Reception Support

Sheila Jackman began serving at UBC in 2004. Ministering at UBC alongside her husband, Robert, Sheila works with the young adult Sunday School class and puts her talents to use in the UBC choir. Music has always been a centerpiece of Sheila’s life. So, it’s no surprise that her life motto is “Life is a musical…sing it!” To keep the everyday pressures of life from overwhelming her, Sheila keeps a song in her heart for every situation. Using her God-given love of singing, Sheila’s greatest ambition is to study music (voice and piano) and to become a church accompanist and music teacher. Although not all people are gifted in song, Sheila believes everyone has a gift that should be used for serving God. “We are all called to do something for the Lord,” Sheila says. “So, find it, do it, and do it well!”

Sheila and Robert have a Shetland sheepdog named Nicky.
