Randy Bales • Pastor
|
Randy Bales, Pastor of UBC, has a heart for people to know God and find forgiveness from sin. Beginning at UBC in 1986, Randy has made it his mission of 25 years to follow the words of the apostle Paul in Philippians 3:10: “That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” One of the eternal pursuits uniquely available to mankind on this earth, Randy believes that anyone and everyone can come to know who God is and find His grace and love.
While at UBC, Randy has dedicated his life in the manner of Ephesians 4: “He gave some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.” Through his strong, expository teaching style, Randy communicates the simple truths found in the Bible for successful and joyful living every week at UBC.
Randy has a MARE degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Peggy, have three children, Johnathan, Rachel, and Michael. |

Orrel Picklesimer • Assoc. Pastor of Admin. Emeritus
|
No one changes hats more than Orrel Picklesimer. Orrel has been a steadfast fixture of UBC life since 1989, most recently taking up the position of Associate Pastor of Administration in 2004. In 2011 Orrel moved to emeritus status working in supervisory rolls with the staff at UBC. With eyes fixed on an “eternity” perspective, Orrel and his wife of 60+ years, Jean, have devoted their energies to a variety of UBC ministries, including discipleship, evangelism, and teaching. Orrel’s philosophy of ministry is to serve God with all his being by following Jesus’ command in Luke 9:23: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
Throughout his life, Orrel has witnessed God’s provision and protection - even surviving three wars! (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam) But in the end, Orrel only wants to be known as a man after God’s own heart.
Before working for UBC, Orrel was a Tax and Accounting Manager for Carmen Garcia. He is also a certified public accountant. Orrel graduated with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso (BBA) and has a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Orrel and Jean are blessed with a son, John Mark, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. |

Jim Williams • Associate Pastor of Student Discipleship

A sharp wit and an incredible knowledge of seemingly everything makes Jim a fun person to be around. His experienced ministry of over 19 years and His daily reliance on God’s provisions, provide a solid foundation for our youth ministry at UBC. Jim and his wife, Kathy, joined the team five years ago. From fishing to camping to ballgames and concerts, Jim is an avid outdoorsman. His individual and deep desire to disciple others parallels that of UBC and shines through in everything he does.
If you can’t find him in the office, check for Jim at youth ballgames, concerts, the Bass Pro Shop, or online shopping for frugal deals.

Terry Samplaski • Associate Pastor of Worship
|
After serving over 10 years in the State of Alabama Dr. Terry Samplaski has come home to Texas to serve the Lord at UBC as our Associate Pastor of Worship. Terry grew up in Austin where he became a life-long Texas Longhorns fan. He was licensed and ordained to the ministry by Allandale Baptist Church, now called Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin. He received his Bachelors of Music from Hardin-Simmons University in 1981. He studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received a MARE degree and Doctorate of Ministry from Logos School of Theology in Jacksonville, Florida.
Terry and his Wife Sharon have three children Jeremy, Jeffrey and Jamie. Their Christmas present in December was learning that they are grandparents waiting for their first grandbaby to be born sometime late summer of 2012. Terry’s passion for worship flows from his love for God and persistence in prayer. Welcome Terry and Sharon to UBC!

Yancey Walker • Director of Sunday School and Financial Administration
|
Yancey Walker has been a member of UBC since 1992. He has served as Department Director of the High School Sunday School for most of that time; enjoying time with our youth at numerous concerts, retreats, summer camps, and mission trips. He has served as Chairman of Deacons and Chairman of the Personnel Committee. Yancey has been a FAITH leader since 1999 and is an international missionary and evangelist having spent over two months in Peru on two trips. He has enjoyed leading studies on Experiencing God and Moses on Leadership.
Yancey is a retired colonel with 23 plus years experience as a hospital administrator and health care executive in the Air Force. He has masters degrees from Augusta College and State University (MBA), Duke University (MHA), and Air War College (Masters of Strategic Studies). He is married to Joyce and they have two children, Yancey V and Christopher and three grandchildren: Cameron, Caroline and Evangeline (Evie). Yancey enjoys fishing, watching Price Is Right and college basketball, and playing Sudoku.

Michael Cline, Jr. • Worship Associate

|
After growing up at UBC and serving as a great example to those around him, Michael was given leadership of the 180 Youth Praise Band in 2007. His leadership roles continue to increase as he serves in a new ministerial position and follows God's call into ministry. Michael brings simplicity and creativity to the team as well as his faithfulness, a desire to grow musically and spiritually, and a true heart for worship.
Michael’s varied tastes in music assist him in building relationships with others. Watch out if you claim to be a fan of a music group; Michael will quiz you on how many songs you know. When he’s not listening to music, Lil’ J is cranking out new songs on his Taylor or watching movies with family or friends.
In 2011 Michael married Gretchann Koehler who is studying to be a Physician's Assistant. In addition to leading the 180 Youth Praise Band and the College Worship Band, Michael also leads in our Sunday services and plays guitar with the adult praise band.

Gloria Baldree • Administrative Support
|
A San Antonian at heart, Gloria Baldree began working at UBC in 1988. Over 20 years of dedication as the Administration Secretary at UBC have produced countless friendships and opportunities for ministry. Gloria believes it is the godly, caring people at UBC that make the church unique, and she will always remember how the members at UBC cared for her when her mother passed. Gloria shares that same joyful comfort with others in the office, the halls of UBC, and on the mountains in Peru. Dedicating her life to children, Gloria invests her time in teaching preschoolers about God’s love. She hopes to see her own children serving God and for her grandchildren to know the Lord.
Gloria has two children, Keith, and Diana, and four grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexander, Deja, and Preston. Whenever she’s not with her grandkids, Gloria spends her free time scrapbooking, crocheting, and doing crafts. |

Amy Mora • Reception Support
Amy Mora joined the team at UBC as our Reception Support Secretary in August of 2011. She is the first voice you will hear when you call the office. She provides secretary support for the Associate Pastor of Worship. Amy’s spiritual gifts of administration, hospitality and helps and her active participation in the ministries of UBC through the years make her a perfect fit for the job.
She and her husband Patrick have been members since 1987. They are the proud parents of five children. She has served the Lord through worship ministries, preschool ministries, children’s ministries, youth ministries, chairing committees and providing help in various other ways as the Lord has led.

Stormie Freimarck • Financial Support Secretary
The desire of Stormie Freimarck’s heart is enjoy the fellowship of God’s presence. She brought 12 years of bookkeeping experience to the team at UBC when she became our financial secretary in the spring of 2011. She loves spending time with her husband Ronnie, three children Jacob, Rachel and Sara, and four beautiful grandchildren (soon to be five). She worships at Congregation Beth Simcha, a Messianic Synagogue.
