Church Planting in Peru

Below are updates on Yancey Walker's and John Salazar's Church Planting trip to Peru. Praise the Lord of the harvest for His mighty work!

Updated from Yancey & John - August 1, 2010
Hello Family and Friends, Greetings from the Huarochiri Province.  The Lord has blessed beyond belief! We had 69 Professions of Faith and 7 house churches started in Carampoma. There is also one house church credited to Lima as the husband of one of the Carampoma teachers professed Christ and agreed to lead a house church in Lima where they live. Overall, we saw 261 Professions of Faith, 6 baptisms, and 24 house churches started.  Again, thank you so much for your prayers.  We are now in Lima attending a 3-day end of Summer conference.  We get on the plane to come home late in the evening of August 4 and arrive in San Antonio on August 5 around 6PM.

Dear Family and Friends:  Another blessed time in Laraos. For the second city in a row, the entire student body (37 students including preschoolers), the principal, and two teachers asked Christ into their hearts. There are also four new house church leaders including the President of the community, the Secretary of the municipality, and the school principal. There was no water in their reservoir so we were unable to do any baptisms. We are on the final stretch. Thank you for your prayers and God bless you! - Yancey and John

Pray for the following:

  • Safe travel between villages. The roads are narrow, on the edge of the mountain and are dangerous.

  • Daily needs for Yancey and John. Water, food, shelter, etc. are available,  but the primitive nature of the villages can make these provisions difficult to acquire.

  • Physical stamina. The altitude of the villages is around 8,000 feet above sea level.

  • House Churches in Huanza. These will not be started by our team but will require the house churches in the surrounding villages to become reproducing churches.

  • "Trainer of Trainers" materials to be translated into Spanish.

  • Fruit that remains. The churches will be led by new believers. Training them to lead these fledgling churches is challenging.

We saw 90 professions of faith, including the entire student body (66 primary and secondary students), one baptism, and three new house churches. We have had 151 professions of faith, 5 baptisms, and 12 new house churches so far. We appreciate your prayers and thank you for your support! Update from Yancey & John - July 11, 2010
Dear Family and Friends - The Lord is overwhelming John and me! We have witnessed/been a part of 111 professions of faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ, five baptisms, and nine house churches started, and we're in the fourth of our six villages. We thank you for your prayers! God bless you and your family! - Yancey

Thank you for your encouragement and very crucial prayers. The entire secondary school population of 34 students as well as one of the "profesoras" came to accept the FAITH message and repeated the sinner's prayer today. May the Lord be honored with these new names in the Lamb's Book of Life! Yours in His Name - John

Update from Yancey - June 27, 2010

Dear Family and Friends – The Lord continues to bless our journey to Huarochiri people.  Huachupampa has been a challenge but we have seen the Lord's work break down barriers.  This past week was the annual Water Festival where many activities took place that precluded people from attending our events, plus many of the villagers were in a drunken state. Overall though, we saw nine souls saved and we were able to enlist a strong Christian brother who is the principal of the schools to be a house church leader. Thank you so much for your fervent prayers.  We head to San Juan de Iris Monday morning [June 28].  God bless you!   —Yancey
