Six Comforts Jesus Brings Believers
Although the disciples were heavy-hearted and troubled, Jesus looks beyond the impending tribulation to His ultimate triumph. The message is not complicated or obscure: If you confess your sins, believe in Jesus and make him the Lord of your life, you will go to Heaven.
So, really…what is Heaven? Heaven is described three ways in these verses from the fourteenth chapter of John (quoting Jesus’ own words):
Heaven is a permanent place: “In my Father’s house are many dwelling places…”
The King James Version of the Bible uses the word “mansions to describe our heavenly dwelling place. The great songwriter Ira Stanphill wrote “Mansion over the hilltop,” a wonderful old hymn, in which he asserted:
I’m satisfied with just a cottage below,
A little silver and a little gold;
But in that city where the ransomed will shine,
I want a gold one that’s silver-lined.
(Chorus)
I’ve got a mansion just over the hilltop,
In that bright land where we’ll never grow old;
And someday yonder, we’ll never more wander,
But walk the streets that are purest gold.
Think about that for a few moments. It sounds a bit fanciful and far-fetched, doesn’t it? But, NO! It’s there….no charge….for those who will put their trust in Jesus.
Heaven is a PERMANENT place: “….a house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens.”
Heaven is a PREPARED place: ”….for I go to prepare a place for you.”
Heaven is a PROMISED place: ”If I go, I will come again to receive you….”
What can we think of in our lives that measures up to that?
