24 Series Devotionals - Day 1
Twenty-Four
Even though I rarely watch broadcast TV shows, in 2005, I began watching the TV series “24.” Part of the compelling nature of the series was that it covered twenty-four hours in the life of the main character, one grueling hour at a time.
As I watched, week after week, I soon began to notice that the intense drama left a feeling of tension in stomach. I decided, “I don’t need that type of ‘entertainment’ in my life.” So I started watching M*A*S*H reruns, However, the 24 series reminded me think about John 13 - 19, which tells the story of the last 24 hours of the life of Christ, leading up to the cross.
The key word in the Book of John is “believe.” It appears 86 times. 40% of all uses of the word “believe” occur in the Gospel of John…..more than in all of Paul’s writings combined!
The key concept is found in John 20:30 - 31 “Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book, but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ."
Have you stopped lately to examine your beliefs? Are they clear and firm in your heart? More importantly: Are they in tune with God’s word and His wonderful plan for us?
As you continue reading the following devotions from John 13-19 ask God to help you examine what you really believe.
